1 Minute With Nurse Stacey | Celebrating International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on May 12, marks the birth of Florence Nightingale in 1820, the pioneer of modern nursing. Established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), this day also emphasises the crucial role nurses play in healthcare.

At Cosmetic Image Clinics we are so grateful and privileged to have nurses from all walks of life as a part of our team. From dermal therapists, to ICU nurses, our team is diverse and passionate.

To celebrate International Nurses Day, we sat down with RN Stacey, who has been at Cosmetic Image Clinics for five years, and asked her a few questions about her passions, our ever evolving industry and her beloved patients.

Why did you become a cosmetic nurse?

Stacey: “I fell into nursing because I was a beauty therapist and I loved treating people, making them feel so good about themselves, I loved skin… so that’s really how I progressed into becoming a cosmetic nurse”.

What’s your favourite thing about being a cosmetic nurse?

Stacey: “My favourite thing about being a nurse would have to be the daily interactions. Getting to meet amazing people everyday and making them feel good about themselves”.

What is the most challenging part of being a cosmetic nurse?

Stacey: “I think the most challenging part of the job would be trying to cater to patients’ expectations.”

How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in nursing and healthcare?

Stacey: “Lots of podcasts, lots of in-house training and I love to attend conferences. I love to attend. I’m listening to Inside Aesthetics a lot!”

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in cosmetic nursing?

Stacey: “Training, training, training! And trying to get in with a doctor that you can learn from is so incredibly valuable. If you haven’t got experience in the industry yet, trying to find a good cosmetic injectables course that you can learn from can be a good way to get a head start on your career.”

What qualities do you think are essential for a good nurse?

Stacey: “You need to be a good listener and really look at a patient holistically and do the best you can for them. It’s really rewarding.”

How has the role of cosmetic nurses changed over the years, in your opinion, especially considering recent AHPRA and TGA guideline updates?

Stacey: “It’s definitely a lot more challenging especially when we can’t broadcast exactly what we do. It’s getting a little bit more cutthroat. Invest in your education, podcasts and your patients and be the best you can be. You’ve really need to put out there what you’re really passionate and good at, that’s what’s setting you apart from the rest.”

What are some common misconceptions about cosmetic nursing that you would like to address?
Stacey: “Certainly that cosmetic medicine makes us look overdone. We’re not all that type of injector and we can do a lot and make you look very very natural!”

What are your favourite treatments in clinic?
Stacey: “I’m really liking the HydraFacial. Coming into the winter months its’ really nice just to slough of those dead skin cells and freshen the skin up and you can do that one really regularly. And Ultherapy is a great one to really tighten and strengthen the skin up as well!”

Your journey towards enhanced confidence and a revitalised appearance is a collaborative effort between you and our skilled team at Cosmetic Image Clinics and International nurses Day helps us reflect and take stock on the services we provide and wonderful careers our nurses are forging.
