Piercing Repair Made Easy: Introducing Our At-Home TCA Acid Kit

Piercings are a form of self-expression, but sometimes they can face issues like irritation, infection, or even migration.

Piercing repairs, whether they are in the nose, lip, eyebrow, earlobe, belly button (umbilical) or anywhere else on the body, are performed when the hole has become stretched, ripped, torn or simply when the piercing is no longer wanted, and the jewellery item has been removed.

Our at-home TCA Acid Repair Kit is a game-changer for those seeking a reliable solution to revive and rejuvenate their piercings. In this blog post, we'll explore what makes TCA acid a powerful tool, and provide detailed instructions on how to use our kit effectively.

The Power of TCA Acid
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) is a chemical compound that has been used for various dermatological applications for decades. Its versatility and efficacy in treating a range of skin conditions have made it a popular choice among professionals. When applied correctly, TCA acid can help regenerate skin and promote healing, making it an excellent option for repairing piercings.

TCA also:
Promotes Cell Regeneration: TCA acid encourages the growth of new, healthy skin cells. This property is crucial for healing damaged or irritated piercings.
Fights Infection: TCA acid has antimicrobial properties that can help combat bacterial or fungal infections that may be affecting your piercing.
Reduces Scarring: By aiding in the shedding of damaged skin layers, TCA acid can minimize the appearance of scars or keloids around the piercing site.
Strengthens Piercing Area: TCA acid can enhance collagen production, which is essential for tissue strength and flexibility. This helps prevent future issues.
Minimises Discomfort: Using our at-home kit with TCA acid can alleviate pain, redness, and swelling associated with troubled piercings.

How to Use Our TCA Acid Repair Kit

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

·      Our At-Home TCA Acid Repair Kit (available here)

·      Alcohol Swabs

·      Stratecal Wound Dressing

·      Compeed Repair Patch

·      Dermal Roller (optional)

Step 2: Find a clean, well-lit area where you can comfortably work.
Ensure you have access to a mirror for better visibility.

Step 3: Cleanse the Area
Cleanse the area to be treated with alcohol swabs. These swabs will remove any dead skin cells, sweat, or grease which may hinder the TCA from working effectively.

Step 4: Protect the Area
Using a cotton bud, protect surrounding healthy skin with Vaseline. This will ensure the TCA treats only the intended area.

Step 5: Apply the Chemical Peel
Apply the chemical peel on clean, dry skin with a cotton tip. Wait for 2 minutes. ‘Frosting’, or whitening of the area will occur. If the frosting does not occur, repeat application as necessary until the skin whitens. Do not exceed 5 applications per session.

Step 6: Cover the Area
Once the area has ‘frosted’, apply a thin layer of Silicone Wound Dressing (Stratecal gel can be purchased over the counter at your local chemist and is recommended by our nurses).

Allow a few minutes for the solution to dry.

Step 7: Aftercare
Apply a Compeed Repair Patch to the area and leave for two weeks.

Optional:
A Dermal Skin Roller can be used after the skin has healed and there is no raw wound. The Dermal Roller can be used in conjunction with the peel kit to increase collagen synthesis. Roll on the area treated for at least 1 minute for a minimum of 3 times per week.
