  • IPL is a non-invasive treatment with no pain and no downtime.

It treats the cause of dry eye by stimulating the meibomian glands that assist in producing tears that are necessary to lubricate the eye.

  • At Cosmetic Image Clinics the Intense Pulsed Light treatment will be performed in a medically supervised clinic.

Firstly eye shields will be placed over the eyes to protect the eyes from the light. Cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area.

Then a small handheld device is used to administer pulses of light to the surrounding areas, from the edge of your ear to the bridge of your nose, just under each eye.

After the IPL treatment the Meibomian Glands will be expressed to clear any blockages.

This IPL procedure improves the function of the Meibomian Glands, helping to improve vision and the feeling of the eyes.

    Stimulation of Meibomian Glands

The Meibomian Gland on the upper and lower eyelids secretes a lipid called meibum, which is a fatty exudate. It functions to circumvent the evaporation of the tears.

Applying intense pulse light (IPL) stimulates the Meibomain Glands acting as a restorative warm compress to liquefy any secretions that may be blocking the oil-secreting gland. IPL will unplug the gland and return it to its normal functions and help with dry eyes.
