Lipoatrophy

Are you suffering from sunken or hollow cheeks, known as ‘facial wasting’ or ‘Lipoatrophy’?

Lipoatrophy is often the symptom of years of therapy for HIV and AIDS, which may cause fat loss to the face, shoulders, arms and legs. Although you can build up the muscle in your shoulders, arms and legs, your face can remain hollow.

While these life-saving medications are essential they can leave tell-tale signs. You don’t have to live with the indicators of the treatment there are suitable treatments available to assist, such as our Face Rejuvenator treatment.

Medications treating the symptoms cause the collagen or fat layers just underneath the skin start to disappear, which leaves the cheeks sunken, making you looked tired and older than you really are.

Fatty tissue, which helps to fill out the face, is lost, causing the skin to sag and further wrinkle. This reduction in skin volume can make the face look thin and narrow. Fortunately, the Face Rejuvenator treatment we offer can help smooth lines and wrinkles and assist the skin to regain a firm and rejuvenated appearance by restoring lost skin volume.

At Cosmetic Image Clinics we want to help you to feel confident again by using our expertise in cosmetic medicine, so that you regain that healthy facial radiance.

  • Some side effects of this treatment may include bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. Patients can use ice packs to ease any pain and swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. Rarely, an allergic reaction can occur which can cause red, inflamed nodules. This has never to date been seen amongst Cosmetic Image Clinics’ clients however it is still a risk.

The most common long-term side effect is the occurrence of palpable nodules where excess collagen has formed. This can occur; it is estimated in studies, in just fewer than 10% of patients. The formation of these nodules is far less common now with improved techniques and products. The nodules generally are not a problem if they occur as long as they are not visible. Visible nodules are rare and can be treated. The incidence of nodules is significantly increased if the treated areas are not massaged for five days after treatment to help disperse the product evenly throughout the skin.
