What is Cosmetic Tattooing?

Cosmetic Tattooing also known as ‘Micropigmentation’ is a cosmetic technique which uses tattoos to produce designs that resemble makeup. Cosmetic Tattooing can be used to enhance the colours of the skin and face, including lips, eyelids and eyebrows.

How can I prepare for my cosmetic tattooing procedure?

If you’re having a lip procedure, start conditioning your lips weeks ahead with a moisturising cream to nourish the skin for easier colour implantation.

If you suffer from cold sores you will need to use medication at least 7 days prior, to help prevent any outbreaks as it will interfere with the final colour.

If you’re using Retin-A, you will need to cease its use at least eight weeks prior to your treatment.

Is it safe?

Yes, this procedure is performed following strict hygiene and sterilisation procedures as stated under the guidelines of The Public Health Act.

As with any procedure there can always be unknown outcomes, please discuss any concerns with your cosmetic tattooist prior to your treatment.

Is it a tattoo?

It is similar to a traditional tattoo but much shallower and delicate which allows the colour to become soft and muted. A tattoo is forever but Colour Implants lighter colours generally fade out after 3-10 years depending on the colour implanted, the person’s age, lifestyle, skin tone and metabolism of cellular renewal.

Is the procedure painful?

A highly effective topical anaesthetic is applied usually making it quite painless, uncomfortable for some but no problem for most. The procedure generally takes less than one hour and the years of looking great far outweigh any momentary discomfort.

Is there a recovery period?

No, Colour Implant is quite superficial. Although some may experience slight swelling or bruising for a short period of time, it is generally not noticeable to family or friends.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the procedure times will vary. Eyebrows will take a little over an hour, generally taking longer to design the brow than it does to implant the colour. Full Lip can take anywhere between one to two hours. Eyeliner generally takes less than an hour.

What care do I have to take after my procedure?

Your skilled cosmetic tattooist will provide you with after care instructions and you should carefully follow these to ensure that you achieve the maximum benefit from your semi-permanent makeup application.
