Tired of your crooked nose or that bump that you notice when you look in the mirror?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job or nose reshaping surgery could be the answer for you.
Rhinoplasty is nasal surgery to reshape the nose; it is one of the most common of all plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures. It may be purely for aesthetic reasons or to correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve breathing problems.
Rhinoplasty can change the shape; reduce or increase the size of your nose. The objective of the surgery is to create a nose that looks natural and in proportion with the face.
A nose job or nose reshaping can be a rewarding cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure but is one where patience is required post-surgery where healing is concerned. The results may not be instantaneous but are worth the wait.
As with any surgery it is important that you have all the relevant information available to make an informed decision. All of our surgeons have had many years of experience performing this surgery and can assist you in determining the most appropriate course of action.
At Cosmetic Image Clinics we also offer a non-surgical option for nose reshaping which is nose enhancement to soften humps, lumps and bumps and to raise nasal bridges and even nasal tips using dermal fillers.

How is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery performed?
Rhinoplasty can be performed in a day surgery using twilight sedation, or within a hospital facility, using general anaesthesia. The procedure takes about one to two hours, however a complex procedure may take longer. The surgical techniques employed will depend primarily on the goals established by you and your surgeon.
Where possible, all of the incisions will be placed inside your nose, where they will not be visible. This is referred to as “closed Rhinoplasty”. If the base of the nose is to be narrowed or the nostrils reduced, small wedges of skin at the base of the nostrils will be removed. Incisions are hidden in the natural crease where the nostril joins the cheek.
In more complex cases the surgeon may prefer to use the “open Rhinoplasty” technique. A very short incision is made across the vertical strip of tissue that separates the nostrils, called the columella. The skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. Finally, the skin is re-draped over the new framework.
When the surgery is complete, a splint is usually applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilise the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.
What should I do when planning Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery?
In your initial consultation, the surgeon will ask you how you would like your nose to look, will evaluate your facial structure and symmetry, and discuss the possibilities with you. He will also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and the results. These factors include the structure of your nose, the shape of your face, the thickness of your skin, your age, and your expectations. You may be shown before and after photos of other people who have had Rhinoplasty and the results which they have achieved from surgery.
The procedure cost will vary according to each patient’s unique requirements. If the surgery is performed for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a marked deformity, the procedure will be contributed to by Medicare and/or private health insurance.
Be sure to tell your surgeon if you’ve had any previous nose surgery or an injury to your nose, even if it was many years ago. You should also inform your surgeon if you have any breathing difficulties. Don’t hesitate to ask the doctor any questions you may have regarding your expectations or concerns about the results.

What is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery?
Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may be purely for aesthetic reasons or it may correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve breathing problems.
The goal of your surgery should be for a nose that looks natural and is balanced, proportional and in harmony with the rest of the face. Your surgeon will be experienced in evaluating these elements as you discuss your expectations and the changes required to achieve your desired look by way of a nose job.
Are there any risk factors when having Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery?
Complications are infrequent and usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including infection or nosebleed. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon’s instructions both before and after surgery.
After surgery, small burst blood vessels may appear as tiny red spots on the skin’s surface; these are usually minor but may be permanent. As for scarring, when Rhinoplasty is performed from inside the nose, there is no visible scarring at all; when an “open” technique is used, or when the procedure calls for the narrowing of flared nostrils, the small scars on the base of the nose are usually not visible.
Occasionally, a second minor procedure may be required to make a correction.
What is the post-operative care after Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery?
After surgery, particularly during the first 24 hours, your face will feel puffy, your nose may ache, and you may have a dull headache. We will ensure that you have adequate pain medication when you go home. You should stay in bed with your head elevated for the first day.
You’ll notice that the swelling and bruising around your eyes will increase at first, reaching a peak after two or three days. Applying cold compresses will reduce this swelling and make you feel a bit better. Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear within two weeks or so. Some subtle swelling, unnoticeable to anyone but you, will remain for several months.
A little bleeding is common during the first few days following surgery, and you may continue to feel some stuffiness for several weeks. You should not blow your nose for a week or so, while the tissues heal. If you have nasal packing, it will be removed after a few days and you’ll feel much more comfortable.
By the end of one or, occasionally, two weeks, all dressings, splints, and stitches should be removed. Most Rhinoplasty patients are up and about within two days, and able to return to work a week or so following surgery. It will be several weeks, however, before you’re entirely back to normal. The final results of a nose job may not be apparent for a year or more.
You must avoid any strenuous activity that increases your blood pressure for two to three weeks. You should avoid hitting or rubbing your nose for eight weeks and be gentle when washing your face and hair or using cosmetics.
We will schedule frequent follow up visits to our clinic in the months after surgery, to check on the progress of your healing. If you have any unusual symptoms between visits, or any questions about what you can and can’t do, you should not hesitate to call us.
There is a large amount of information to be considered when making the decision to have Rhinoplasty surgery. Much of this information will be explained to you during your consultation appointment. At Cosmetic Image Clinics at Aquarius Health and Medispa we understand the issues involved in making such an important decision and we are happy to discuss your concerns at any time.
What will happen after Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Brisbane) or nose reshaping surgery?
Will I need to wear a garment?
You will have a nasal splint (nose plaster) over the bridge of your nose which will need to remain in place for 7-10 days following your surgery. In the immediate post-operative period (24-48hrs) you will have a nasal bolster taped to the underside of your nose which will absorb any oozing and this will need to be changed as needed.
When can I have a shower?
You will be able to shower 24 hours after your procedure. However your nasal splint will need to be kept dry until removed.
When can I go back to work?
As a general rule, it is recommended that patients arrange to have two weeks off work. If your job involves any form of heavy lifting or straining of any kind the time will increase. Of course, if you take longer to heal or have an adverse reaction of any kind provision needs to be made for additional time, but this is not something we would anticipate.
Will I need help at home?
Yes, you will. Make the most of it and arrange for help with things like shopping, taking children to school and general household duties. Rest up and take the time out to focus on your recovery. Get some books and DVD’s and chill out for a week. You’re not to lift heavy objects, strain, bend down or overdo things.
When can I go out in public?
We’re all individuals which means we each heal at different rates and in different ways. In addition, some of us are more sensitive about our appearance than others. Some will be happy to go out and socialise when they still have some swelling. Others prefer to wait a little longer. It’s important to remember that when you look in the mirror, you’ll be more aware of any residual swelling than your friends and family will.
With most procedures of the face we find that most patients are happy to return to normal activities in one week, but some people feel more comfortable at two. There is a possibility that not all of the swelling or bruising will have resolved at this time. Don’t organise any special occasions for at least two weeks after your procedure and consider the possibility that you may need more time than this.
Will I have any scars and will they be noticeable?
You may or may not have scarring, depending on the procedure performed. The surgery can be performed either internally or externally. If internally you will not have any visible scarring. If externally, you will usually have an incision at the base of the nose, which generally heals very well and is barely noticeable. In most circumstances the scars will fade to a fine white line over time.
When will I see a difference?
Our bodies are individual, as is the healing process. You may see a noticeable difference following removal of the nasal splint at 7-10 days or it may take longer. Be patient and follow your post-op instructions carefully and the results will become apparent. In most cases, the final results will take about six months to fully resolve and settle down.
When can I have my stitches removed?
If your procedure is performed externally, your stitches will be dissolvable, not requiring removal. If your procedure is performed externally, your stitches will need to be removed at 7-10 days post-op.
